How to Improve Your English Proficiency

If you want to improve your English proficiency, you should be provided with several skills. These skills are very important for you as English learners. Improving English proficiency is not as easy as what we think. We must study hard and we also need to master at least these essential skills: Reading, Speaking, Listening and Writing.

The first skill is reading. This is the most important thing that you must do. To begin with, you have to read a lot about English books, because it can help you enrich vocabulary. Then you practice saying the words which are difficult to pronounce, and read a little more loudly. After that you will also find out the information or anything important in the readings. Lastly, try to understand what you have learned.

The second is speaking. This is what you have to practice very often. Because to be able to speak English well, you need to practice it so that you will not tongue-tied. You have to practice quite often     with your friends in the class ─ or it will be better for you to practice directly with English native speakers. After that, you will speak fluently and fast when you want to respond to anyone.

The third is listening. At this skill, you need to listen to the audio or movies very often in order to check your listening comprehension. After that, you need to practice listening at least fifteen minutes a day. You need to repeat it until three times. Thereby, you will know the words which are difficult to catch little by little. If necessary, never feel bored to listen to English conversations when you have spare time. Because listening to English native speaker conversations is very different from non-English native speakers. It is different from pronunciation and the speed of their speaking.

The last is writing. At this skill, you need to check your ability in writing. When you want to write an essay, you must be able to check your grammar errors in order that you can revise your writing before you give it to another person. You have to master the grammar. And you have to have so many vocabularies so that your writing looks creative and interesting. Afterwards, you also need to know how to write a good essay.

To sum up, improving English proficiency does require considerable and all-out efforts. The skills seem to be hard and need long enough process to master them. To master all the skills, you have to know how to read, to speak, to listen and to write very well.
